The mythical office 'look' of the wolf of Wall Street and the executive woman was characterized by the use of a suit, ties, pencil skirts, high heels, silk shirts or blazers. Nowadays, along with the return to the office in a post-pandemic scenario, corporate 'outfits' have changed and include among their favorite items sports shoes , which are no longer an item associated with sports or leisure to be present in practically all offices. Proof of this is its constant increase in demand. According to a study by the online price comparator idealo.es , purchasing interest in sneakers has increased by 229% in the last three years .
This trend has already conquered all generations , even the most reticent. If in 2020 the main target for sports shoes was the population between 25 and 34 years old , in 2021 it is people between 45 and 54 years old who most demand this type of products, according to this study. On the other hand, those over 65 years of age are also betting on sneakers and in less than a year the search for these products by this generation has increased by 3%. Some data that demonstrates how this garment is suitable for all audiences and for all areas, including work.
A classic that is still present in the office
And what happens with the classic heels, another key piece in an office outfit ? According to the Telegram Number Data results of the price comparator's research, they have increased their demand by 34.45% in the last three years, with an average cost of 59 euros. That is to say, although they are still used, they are sought after less than sneakers.
Brands preferred by consumers
'Sneakers' began to gain prominence around 15 years ago and are currently an industry that moves millions a year. Many even consider them a true collector's item. Sports shoes are one of the few pieces of clothing that crosses borders and are suitable for any age, position and culture. More than 100 years after their birth, they take over the streets and the big catwalks, becoming an attractive product for luxury brands and an essential option for users. According to the results of idealo's analysis, the top 5 brands preferred by Spaniards are made up of Nike at the top, followed by Converse, Adidas, New Balance and Vans .
When analyzing the demand for models, we found that, so far in 2021, men are mainly looking for the Vans Old Skool, the Blazer Mid '77 Vintage and the Air Force 1 '07 (both belonging to Nike); while women opt for the Chuck Taylor All Star Lift from Converse , in its different versions. The average price of sneakers, for both women and men, is usually around 72 euros , depending on the model chosen.
“Over the years we have been able to verify that fashion is cyclical and massively influences the behavior of users. A few years ago it was unimaginable for sneakers to parade on haute couture catwalks, but now it is common to see how luxury brands are betting on this footwear to satisfy demand ,” explains Adrián Amorín, country manager of idealo.
