A member of a prominent family from Arico, like most of his relatives, Don Esteban de Morales followed a military career, in which he entered as a second lieutenant in the Militias, later promoted to lieutenant and captain of the Militias of Abona; As such,
He was in charge of one of the two companies in Arico, so he was one of the two highest-ranking soldiers residing at that time in that area.
