Botany is an interesting field and it is essential for everyone to know at least the basics. It is also very interesting to know the scientific names of plants and their meaning. Whether a plant's vernacular case name, English common name, or Latin botanical name, each has an interesting background and meaning. These names, coined in the 17th century by Linnaeus, considered the father of plant taxonomy, are still in use around the world without any confusion. One of them is Clitoria ternatea known as Sangupushpam. Apart from the name, there are many other important things to know about this plant. Conch-shaped, dark blue in color, this flower is sacred and very important in herbal medicine. Sangupushaps are mentioned in Kurinchippattu, Sivakasinthamani and the 18th century Nataraja Satakam composed by Chidambaranatha Mamunivar.

In the literature of Palantami, the flower is variously mentioned as "blue like looking at a bell, like a peacock's eye, like an eye, blooming like an eye". "Seeing mani and Anna, a flower appears and wears it with pearls" - Nath 221/1,2. (To decorate the cool bushes Telegram Number Data with the black iris flower, like the Nilamani, and the pale flower Red). "Dhan Puna Ukrlai Kaan Pol Ma Malar" – Nath 262/1 (The eye-like, large flower of the iris grown in a cool garden) "Peely Shakes a Trap" – Short 110/4 (Waving an iris flower like the shining eye of a peacock) “Karuvilai Muranya Dhan Puttal Paganrai” – Agam 255/11 (Phakanr and Ukrlai are different in color) Manipoong Ukrlai – Kurinchipattu (ft 68) Kann as Ukrlai Malara – Aing 464/1 Neer Var Kannin Kanna Malara – Agam 294 In Aalpadukatha, among the four castes of Elangovadis, the laborer is defined by his body color as a "barren man".

Blue flowers are mostly mentioned in the literature and white flowers only in one place in Kurinchi song. It is also mentioned in Palanthamil texts that this flower juice is used to emulsify iron. This is one of the 99 flowers that Kurinchippattu mentions that the leader and her friend collected and played together to make a team. Originating in Asia, this plant which is now found in Africa, America and Australia is also known as "Kakkan, Uyavai, Mamuli, Kakatan, Neela Kakatan, Sanganguppi, Sangkupu, Sangu Pushpam, Kannikodi, Irigannu, Akurlai, Kakartan, Subushpi, Mohanasini, Swetai , Shweta'' are also named. Called Kirikaniki and Kirguna in Kannada, Shengapushpa in Marathi and Konkani, Kokarnika and Ardrakarni in Sanskrit, this flag belongs to Fabaceae, a family of pulses such as gram, dal and urad. In Sri Lanka, it is the Neela Kakane. Aparajita mentioned in the Mahabharata and Andal 'Garkota flower' is the same flower. "Krishna's light" is called by the mother who cherished this.
